Choreographer | Director
Katie reached out to me with a website she had been running herself for many years. As a choreographer and director, a lot of her creative focus is with her work and not necessarily focused on the technical aspect of presenting her portfolio online. She expressed frustration with not knowing quite how to take her website to the next level. Because of the extensive amount of professional experience she has and her growing list of credits, it felt important to create a website that reflects her rising acclaim in the musical theater industry and increased attention on Katie’s work and artistry.
Challenges
The main challenges of this project was to create a user experience which would showcase her reel and also emphasize the level of expertise and volume of professional experience she has. With a large collection of media and articles to put on display, we worked together to create a system of pages which would best showcase all of the writing and media surrounding her projects.
Katie was also looking for styling on her website that would better represent her personality. She mentioned specifically wanting something sultry and dark mode. As well as an intentional usage of a lowercase font.

Design Solutions
The palette I chose was inspired by one of the photographs Katie sent me in which she was wearing a pair of bright pink trousers. To create a dark mode feeling, I chose a dark muted green for the main background color. Paired with a light green and for the text and the bright pink as an accent color.
Through the color and font choices, were were able to achieve a sultry dark mode website which matched the professionalism that she brings to her work each day. The new design also works to elevate her online presence through creative layouts and geometric shapes. the utilization of photography is a main component of the success of this design showcasing katie’s work as a storyteller, using movement as her medium.
Final Product
Katie came into this project with a website that was not working for her and her needs. Through our work together we were able to identify what is was that she needed from her website and utilize design strategy to implement those changes. Katie now has a dynamic, well organized and easy to navigate website that she should be proud to share with her professional networks. Her website acts as an extension of her professional work, bringing the same amount of creativity and professionalism to her online space as she does to her work in person at the theater.
